The CSM New Music Club (est. 2022) is a music-oriented, student-led club at the College of Southern Maryland. The club consists of student composers, musicians, and music lovers of various skillsets and backgrounds. Anyone is welcome regardless of musical experience.
The purpose of the New Music Club shall be:
To learn and grow as composers and performers of new music.
To learn to work collaboratively to create compositions.
To give public performances of music composed by club members.
To develop the skills necessary to be successful working composers.
Examples of New Music Club activities and events:
Music education
Presentations and masterclasses from working composers and performers
Getting feedback from peers and educators
Composition jams
Timed composing/songwriting challenge based around a theme
Goal is to create something completely new and original
Inter-departmental collaboration
Creating original film soundtracks for digital media production students
Performing live music for dance recitals
Orchestration days
Instrument show and tell
Learn how to compose for different instruments
Learn about recording techniques
Composer showcase/new music concert
End-of-semester concert debuting original compositions
May be professionally recorded for portfolio use
Jam sessions
Casual, improvisational music making
Main goal is to have fun!
